Title: Secondary Librarian (60% Librarian / 40% Teaching Assignment)

Job Objective: The Secondary Librarian promotes a culture of reading, inquiry, academic integrity, and information literacy across Grades 6–12. This position provides leadership in library services, supports research across the curriculum, collaborates with teachers to enhance learning, and teaches one course within a secondary academic department. The librarian plays a key role in supporting the IBDP Extended Essay process and co-teaching middle school classes on research and library skills.
Qualifications:     
Education: U.S. or equivalent professional teaching certification
Degree in Library and Information Science, Education, or related field
preferred
 Additional certification or graduate coursework in a subject area is an
advantage
Experience:   
At least three years of experience in a school library or as a teacher-librarian
Experience teaching in a secondary school setting preferred
Experience in international schools and/or the IB Diploma Programme strongly preferred
Familiarity with research pedagogy, academic honesty, referencing systems, and inquiry-based learning
Knowledge & Skills: 
Ability to curate, manage, and promote digital and print library resources
Strong instructional skills and experience co-teaching research and literacy lessons
Understanding of the Extended Essay process and IB academic requirements
Strong technology skills, including library databases, online research tools, and citation software
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

Major Areas of Responsibility
Library & Information Services (60%)
Manage the secondary library collection, including cataloging, acquisitions, and resource development to support curriculum needs and diverse reading interests.
Promote a culture of reading and lifelong learning through displays, book talks, author visits, and reading initiatives.
Provide research and information literacy instruction through scheduled classes, co-teaching, and small-group support.
Guide students and teachers in effective use of digital and print research tools, citation systems, and academic honesty practices.
Support teachers by curating subject-specific resources for units, projects, and assessments.
Develop and maintain an up-to-date, student-friendly library space that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to learning and collaboration.
Support the IBDP Extended Essay process by working with supervisors and students on research skills, digital literacy, referencing, organization, and source evaluation.
Teaching Responsibilities (40%)
Teach one or more academic courses within a secondary subject department (to be determined based on qualifications and school needs).
Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction aligned with department curriculum and school expectations.
Assess student learning and provide meaningful academic feedback.
Maintain high expectations for student achievement and classroom engagement.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with teachers to integrate research skills into units across departments.
Co-teach middle school library and research lessons as part of advisory, humanities, or subject-area classes.
Communicate regularly with students, teachers, and families regarding available resources and support systems.
Participate in department meetings, professional learning communities, and cross-divisional collaborations.
Professional Growth & Contribution
Stay current in library science, research pedagogy, digital literacy, and adolescent reading trends.
Attend relevant professional development workshops and conferences.
Participate in school events, curriculum development, and community-building initiatives.
Duties Beyond the Classroom
Contribute to the co-curricular life of the school through clubs, student activities, or service learning.
Support AISD’s mission, vision, and values as a positive role model for students.
Assignment of Duties:
Teaching assignments, placement responsibilities, and non-teaching duties will be determined by the administration in accordance with school policy. The primary responsibility remains supporting student learning and growth in Bangla and across their academic program.

Number of Contract Days

Teachers have 190 contract days.
Principals have 205 contract days

Starting Salary Range

Gross Salary: $71,500

Accommodation

Furnished apartment selected by the school is provided.

Flights/Transport

Annual round-trip economy excursion airfare Dhaka-point of origin-Dhaka for employee and listed full-time residing dependents.

Utilities

Up to $3,500 per household per year for gas, electricity, and water, plus an additional $1,000 maximum per year for dependent children.

Moving Allowance

Shipping: $5,000 for a single, $7,000 for a teaching couple, and an additional $500 for each dependent child up to a maximum of 2 dependents.

Settling in Allowance: $1,000 for a single teacher, $1,500 for a family (one teacher teaching at AISD), and $2,000 for a teaching couple with or without dependents.

Dependent Opportunities

2 children per teacher or 3 children for a teaching couple.

Medical

School-sponsored international health insurance plan for the employee and dependents that reside with the employee or are full-time college students not more than 26 years of age.

Dental

The School will pay the cost of the health insurance provided by the School for Employee and spouse (if residing in Dhaka), and minor dependents who currently reside with the Employee or are under the age of 26, regardless if they are residing with the Employee or not.
The School provides a total Dental/Vision self-insurance benefit of $750 a year (per person) to be used over the length of the contract. This coverage is provided to the employee, Spouse and dependent children who are covered under the AISD Health Insurance Plan. This benefit expires at the termination of the contract. Benefits are for each covered family member separately – unused benefits from one family member cannot be used by another family member.
All Claims for vision must be submitted to the School’s Insurance carrier and the unpaid portion may then be claimed from the School by submitting an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from the Insurance carrier showing the unpaid balance.

Laptop Allowance: $1500 as part of the Bring Your Own Device program to purchase an Apple laptop.

Retirement

U.S. Citizens: The school will contribute 10% of the Employee’s base salary, on a monthly basis, into the schools’ 401K AISD Retirement Plan conditional on the employee also making a minimum monthly contribution of 3% or more (up to the IRS limits), of their base salary into that same plan. If the Employee contributes less than 3%, they are not eligible to receive the 10% contribution.

Non-U.S. Citizens: The school will contribute 10% of the Employee’s base salary, on a monthly basis, to the Employee for their retirement. The Employee is responsible to set up their own retirement program.
