Title: Language A – IBDP Bangla Teacher

(60% Bangla 6–12 / 40% Additional Teaching Assignment)
Job Objective: The Language A – IBDP Bangla teacher will lead a growing Grade 6–12 Bangla program that prepares students for success in the IB Diploma Programme and supports their pursuit of the bilingual diploma. This teacher will deliver a rigorous Language A curriculum, differentiate instruction for varying proficiency levels, assess fluency and placement, and maintain strong continuity between PYP and DP expectations. In addition to teaching Bangla, the teacher will also hold one teaching assignment in another secondary subject area.
Qualifications:     
Education: U.S. or equivalent professional teaching certification
Degree in Bangla Language, Literature, Education, or related field preferred
Experience:   
At least three years of teaching experience, preferably in international or bilingual school settings
Experience teaching Language A courses and/or IB Diploma Programme preferred
Experience differentiating instruction for students with multiple proficiency levels within one class
Experience with placement, language assessment, and curriculum alignment across grade levels
Knowledge & Skills: 
Deep knowledge of Bangla literature, writing, literary analysis, and academic language development
Ability to design rigorous learning that meets IB Language A expectations
Skilled in differentiation, scaffolding, and supporting heritage speakers and fluent speakers together
Strong assessment skills, including diagnostic placement, formative feedback, and standards-based reporting
Ability to work collaboratively across departments and divisions to ensure curriculum continuity

Major Areas of Responsibility
Bangla Program Leadership (60%)
Teach Bangla Language A courses for Grades 6–12, ensuring continuity, academic rigor, and alignment with PYP foundations and IB DP expectations.
Prepare students for the IBDP Language A course and support pathways to the bilingual diploma.
Differentiate instruction to support a range of language proficiency levels within the same class period.
Develop curriculum, resources, and assessments aligned to IB Language A standards.
Assess students for accurate placement within the Bangla program and adjust groupings as needed.
Provide targeted support for heritage speakers, returning native speakers, and students new to Bangla literacy.
Maintain an inclusive and culturally rich learning environment that promotes Bangla language and literature.
Additional Teaching Responsibilities (40%)
Teach one or more courses in an additional secondary subject (to be determined based on qualifications and school needs).
Plan and deliver instruction aligned with department curriculum and school standards.
Assess student learning and provide meaningful, timely feedback.
Collaboration & Communication
Work with PYP, Middle Years, and DP teachers to ensure a clear progression of skills and academic expectations.
Communicate frequently and effectively with students and families regarding progress, expectations, and placement decisions.
Participate actively in department meetings, curriculum planning, and school initiatives.
Professional Growth & Contribution
Stay current in Bangla literature, pedagogy, and IB assessment expectations.
Engage in professional development, workshops, and collaboration with IB colleagues.
Contribute to AISD community activities, cultural celebrations, and language-related events.
Duties Beyond the Classroom
Engage with students through co-curricular activities, clubs, service learning, language events, or community cultural activities.
Serve as a positive role model, upholding school values and academic integrity.

Number of Contract Days

Teachers have 190 contract days.
Principals have 205 contract days

Starting Salary Range

Gross Salary: $71,500

Accommodation

Furnished apartment selected by the school is provided.

Flights/Transport

Annual round-trip economy excursion airfare Dhaka-point of origin-Dhaka for employee and listed full-time residing dependents.

Utilities

Up to $3,500 per household per year for gas, electricity, and water, plus an additional $1,000 maximum per year for dependent children.

Moving Allowance

Shipping: $5,000 for a single, $7,000 for a teaching couple, and an additional $500 for each dependent child up to a maximum of 2 dependents.

Settling in Allowance: $1,000 for a single teacher, $1,500 for a family (one teacher teaching at AISD), and $2,000 for a teaching couple with or without dependents.

Dependent Opportunities

2 children per teacher or 3 children for a teaching couple.

Medical

School-sponsored international health insurance plan for the employee and dependents that reside with the employee or are full-time college students not more than 26 years of age.

Dental

The School will pay the cost of the health insurance provided by the School for Employee and spouse (if residing in Dhaka), and minor dependents who currently reside with the Employee or are under the age of 26, regardless if they are residing with the Employee or not.
The School provides a total Dental/Vision self-insurance benefit of $750 a year (per person) to be used over the length of the contract. This coverage is provided to the employee, Spouse and dependent children who are covered under the AISD Health Insurance Plan. This benefit expires at the termination of the contract. Benefits are for each covered family member separately – unused benefits from one family member cannot be used by another family member.
All Claims for vision must be submitted to the School’s Insurance carrier and the unpaid portion may then be claimed from the School by submitting an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from the Insurance carrier showing the unpaid balance.

Laptop Allowance: $1500 as part of the Bring Your Own Device program to purchase an Apple laptop.

Retirement

U.S. Citizens: The school will contribute 10% of the Employee’s base salary, on a monthly basis, into the schools’ 401K AISD Retirement Plan conditional on the employee also making a minimum monthly contribution of 3% or more (up to the IRS limits), of their base salary into that same plan. If the Employee contributes less than 3%, they are not eligible to receive the 10% contribution.

Non-U.S. Citizens: The school will contribute 10% of the Employee’s base salary, on a monthly basis, to the Employee for their retirement. The Employee is responsible to set up their own retirement program.
