Title: Secondary Music Teacher

Job Objective: Responsible for developing in students the interest and ability for creative expression in music consistent with school guidelines. 
To provide music instrumental support to Secondary students in
the classroom.
Qualifications:     
Education: U.S. Teaching Certification or Equivalent
Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.
International experience is preferred.
Experience: At least three years of experience preferably in International settings.
IB Diploma or experience in some type of external selection board will be preferred.
Knowledge & Skills: Innovative Mindset, Collaborative, Flexible, Exhibits the Characteristics of the IB Learner Profile.

Major Areas of Responsibility
Effectiveness as a Secondary Music Teacher
The teacher should:
Deliver a full Criteria-Based Music curriculum to students in Secondary.
Be a leading voice in Secondary Music curriculum decisions, developing new units and materials as appropriate.
Become familiar with the curriculum guidelines, and work towards their successful implementation
Be familiar with inquiry-based music educational approaches.
Be an outstanding classroom practitioner, using a mixture of traditional and innovative teaching methodologies to enable students to reach their musical potential.
Stimulate interest in the subject matter
Incorporate a plethora of classroom activities and musical skills, including performance, composition, listening and reflecting.
Plan and prepare lessons in relation to individual student's needs and the criteria-based curriculum.
Decide and explain clear learning objectives, and set appropriate assignments with an adequate time allocation
Present material in a clear, organized fashion
Set work at the appropriate level and encourage high student performance, consistent with ability
Use a variety of methods and available teaching aids, aiming to meet the needs of the individual and the group;
Plan activities to broaden the experience of the learner, as appropriate
Encourage creative and critical thinking and expression of ideas
Provide feedback that is designed to motivate the students
Support students in developing musical learning portfolios
Evaluate and record student progress
Contact parents through written reports and other formal and informal means, as required;
Have experience with music technology and display a willingness to use this as a significant teaching tool (Prior knowledge of Garageband and Sibelius software is desirable).
Model lifelong learning and a lifelong love of music to students and colleagues.
Be able to demonstrate, as a minimum, basic classroom piano skills (Keyboard proficiency is desired).
Create and maintain an inventory of musical equipment and facilities for use in Secondary.
As a key member of the Co- and Extra-curricular Music Programme
The teacher should:
Galvanize students and encourage their participation in co-curricular performing ensembles with an enthusiastic approach.
Have experience directing both choral and instrumental ensembles.
Prepare performing ensembles for the Winter and Spring Concerts.
Model good performance practice through a mixture of conducting, singing, and instrumental playing.
Attend and assist with all Music Department concerts throughout the academic year.
Exhibit compassion and encouragement towards our young musicians.
Collaborate with Music Department colleagues across the whole school
Liaise with teachers, parents, and the Parent Teacher Association to organize logistics for concerts and other events.
Prepare students for AMIS (Association for Music in International Schools) SAISA festivals, and attend as a director/chaperone.
Consistently show willingness to go above and beyond, taking initiative and offering assistance where appropriate.

The teacher should:
Work with colleagues in a co-operative spirit
Give and accept constructive suggestions for improvements
Refrain from public criticism of the school or colleagues, and communicate any concerns through the appropriate channels
Show tact and discretion in dealing with school matters, and remain calm and objective if difficult situations arise
Respect confidentiality
Be punctual in meeting all time obligations and deadlines, with regard to all aspects of the role, including the production of reports, arrival at school and lessons, classroom supervision, duties, meetings etc

Number of Contract Days

Teachers have 190 contract days.
Principals have 205 contract days

Starting Salary Range

Gross Salary: $71,500

Accommodation

Furnished apartment selected by the school is provided.

Flights/Transport

Annual round-trip economy excursion airfare Dhaka-point of origin-Dhaka for employee and listed full-time residing dependents.

Utilities

Up to $3,500 per household per year for gas, electricity, and water, plus an additional $1,000 maximum per year for dependent children.

Moving Allowance

Shipping: $5,000 for a single, $7,000 for a teaching couple, and an additional $500 for each dependent child up to a maximum of 2 dependents.

Settling in Allowance: $1,000 for a single teacher, $1,500 for a family (one teacher teaching at AISD), and $2,000 for a teaching couple with or without dependents.

Dependent Opportunities

2 children per teacher or 3 children for a teaching couple.

Medical

School-sponsored international health insurance plan for the employee and dependents that reside with the employee or are full-time college students not more than 26 years of age.

Dental

The School will pay the cost of the health insurance provided by the School for Employee and spouse (if residing in Dhaka), and minor dependents who currently reside with the Employee or are under the age of 26, regardless if they are residing with the Employee or not.
The School provides a total Dental/Vision self-insurance benefit of $750 a year (per person) to be used over the length of the contract. This coverage is provided to the employee, Spouse and dependent children who are covered under the AISD Health Insurance Plan. This benefit expires at the termination of the contract. Benefits are for each covered family member separately – unused benefits from one family member cannot be used by another family member.
All Claims for vision must be submitted to the School’s Insurance carrier and the unpaid portion may then be claimed from the School by submitting an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from the Insurance carrier showing the unpaid balance.

Laptop Allowance: $1500 as part of the Bring Your Own Device program to purchase an Apple laptop.

Retirement

U.S. Citizens: The school will contribute 10% of the Employee’s base salary, on a monthly basis, into the schools’ 401K AISD Retirement Plan conditional on the employee also making a minimum monthly contribution of 3% or more (up to the IRS limits), of their base salary into that same plan. If the Employee contributes less than 3%, they are not eligible to receive the 10% contribution.

Non-U.S. Citizens: The school will contribute 10% of the Employee’s base salary, on a monthly basis, to the Employee for their retirement. The Employee is responsible to set up their own retirement program.
