Title: Upper Elementary Classroom Teacher

Job Objective: To nurture students' intellectual, social, and emotional development in a learning environment that upholds the school's mission, vision, and curriculum.
Qualifications:     
Education: U.S. Teaching Certification or Equivalent
Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.
Degree in Elementary Education preferred
Valid teaching licensure preferred
International experience is preferred.
Experience: Experience as an elementary classroom teacher and experience with the IB PYP.
Knowledge & Skills: An educator committed to fostering the attributes of the IB Learner Profile in students by creating a dynamic learning environment that values innovation, collaboration and flexibility.

Major Areas of Responsibility
Curriculum & Instruction:
Use PYP planning processes, including: pre assessment, provocation, reflections, and student data to collaboratively plan as well as teach and assess student learning.
Design student centered inquiry learning and assessment based on curricular standards. 
Plan, develop, and implement conceptual and skills based curriculum and learning engagements 
Use inquiry pedagogy to plan learning engagements and inspire students to take action.
Plan and conduct learning for a balanced program including flexible grouping, mini-lessons, and individual instruction that provides students with opportunities to observe, wonder, and inquire.
Individualize and differentiate instruction to meet each student’s learning needs.
Maintain appropriate learning expectations of all students at all times.
Employ technology (computer, video, internet, etc.) as appropriate to enhance instruction.
Relationships and Communication:
Promote approaches at school level that value linguistic, religious, cultural, and ethnic diversity
Establish trust and rapport with a diverse group of students, parents, and educators.
Communicate directly and collaboratively with students, families and colleagues.
Partner effectively with ES colleagues and administration to meet the needs of all students.
Engage parents and students in the learning process through frequent and meaningful communication about student progress.
Interact cooperatively with other staff members in the development of cohesive curriculum materials and the establishment of instructional goals.
Have open and honest communication with teaching assistants to support their understanding of planning and pedagogy.
Assessment:
Regularly assess student learning to provide positive, timely, descriptive feedback in support of growth and achievement.
Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of student progress and needs
Collect and analyze data; participate in data informed conversations and decision making.
Continuously monitor student learning and make appropriate modifications of goals and strategies to meet students’ needs.
Environment:
Provide an environment that is conducive to and maximizes student learning potential.
Foster a stimulating learning environment with high expectations based on understanding and respect.
Effectively manage students while providing for a variety of learning styles, ability levels, and educational/linguistic backgrounds.
Utilize the environment as a ‘third teacher’.
Monitor for students who are struggling academically and/or social/emotionally and help provide the resources or support needed
Professional Responsibilities:
Demonstrate commitment to personal continuous professional growth and development.
Engage with students in meaningful activities beyond the classroom which extend learning experiences for students (coaching, organizing field trips, sponsorship of clubs, events, or community service projects, etc.)
Act as a positive role model for students.
Undertake any other duties within the department as directed by the Principal.

Number of Contract Days

Teachers have 190 contract days.
Principals have 205 contract days

Starting Salary Range

Gross Salary: $71,500

Accommodation

Furnished apartment selected by the school is provided.

Flights/Transport

Annual round-trip economy excursion airfare Dhaka-point of origin-Dhaka for employee and listed full-time residing dependents.

Utilities

Up to $3,500 per household per year for gas, electricity, and water, plus an additional $1,000 maximum per year for dependent children.

Moving Allowance

Shipping: $5,000 for a single, $7,000 for a teaching couple, and an additional $500 for each dependent child up to a maximum of 2 dependents.

Settling in Allowance: $1,000 for a single teacher, $1,500 for a family (one teacher teaching at AISD), and $2,000 for a teaching couple with or without dependents.

Dependent Opportunities

2 children per teacher or 3 children for a teaching couple.

Medical

School-sponsored international health insurance plan for the employee and dependents that reside with the employee or are full-time college students not more than 26 years of age.

Dental

The School will pay the cost of the health insurance provided by the School for Employee and spouse (if residing in Dhaka), and minor dependents who currently reside with the Employee or are under the age of 26, regardless if they are residing with the Employee or not.
The School provides a total Dental/Vision self-insurance benefit of $750 a year (per person) to be used over the length of the contract. This coverage is provided to the employee, Spouse and dependent children who are covered under the AISD Health Insurance Plan. This benefit expires at the termination of the contract. Benefits are for each covered family member separately – unused benefits from one family member cannot be used by another family member.
All Claims for vision must be submitted to the School’s Insurance carrier and the unpaid portion may then be claimed from the School by submitting an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from the Insurance carrier showing the unpaid balance.

Laptop Allowance: $1500 as part of the Bring Your Own Device program to purchase an Apple laptop.

Retirement

U.S. Citizens: The school will contribute 10% of the Employee’s base salary, on a monthly basis, into the schools’ 401K AISD Retirement Plan conditional on the employee also making a minimum monthly contribution of 3% or more (up to the IRS limits), of their base salary into that same plan. If the Employee contributes less than 3%, they are not eligible to receive the 10% contribution.

Non-U.S. Citizens: The school will contribute 10% of the Employee’s base salary, on a monthly basis, to the Employee for their retirement. The Employee is responsible to set up their own retirement program.
