Overview

The EAL Teacher is responsible for overseeing the English as an Additional Language (EAL) program across the entire college. This role includes collaborating closely with the Heads of College, Heads of School, Heads of EAL for both EY, Primary and Secondary divisions. The position also includes teaching responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Coordination
  • Collaborate with the Heads of EAL for Primary and Secondary to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive EAL program.
Program Development and Implementation
  • Develop, implement, and review EAL strategies and programs to support students' language acquisition and academic achievement.
  • Ensure that EAL teaching methodologies are current, effective, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Oversee intensive English programs to provide additional support for students requiring accelerated language acquisition.
Teaching and Learning
  • Deliver high-quality EAL instruction to students, employing a variety of teaching techniques to address different learning styles.
  • Monitor and assess students' progress, providing regular feedback and support to help them achieve their full potential.
Professional Development
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for teaching staff to enhance their understanding and ability to support EAL students.
  • Stay abreast of the latest research and developments in EAL education, integrating best practices into the college's programs.
Administration and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate records of students' progress, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Oversee the handling of data management, ensuring that all EAL data is collected, stored, and analyzed effectively.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure that EAL policies are consistently applied and that students receive the necessary support.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Work closely with Directors of Curriculum and Instruction, Heads of EAL in each school, Heads of College, and teachers to support students' educational and linguistic needs.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the well-being and academic success of all students.

Skills/qualifications:
  • A degree in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Relevant teaching certification or qualifications in EAL.
  • Possession of relevant education certifications or teaching qualifications such as PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) and QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) certificates.
  • Significant experience in teaching EAL, preferably within an international or multi-lingual setting.
  • Proven experience in a leadership or coordinative role within an educational environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead a team effectively.
  • Cross-cultural teaching experience and adaptability to establish positive relationships with students and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds, fostering cultural exchange and understanding.
