About: Bishkek International School

Bishkek International School (BIS) is a vibrant, non-profit community school in the heart of Kyrgyzstan’s capital. Since opening in 2011 with just 20 students, BIS has grown to welcome over 380 students aged 2 to 18, representing more than 34 nationalities. The school is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and is an IB World School, offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). For students aged 14 to 16, BIS also provides the internationally recognised Cambridge IGCSE programme. In addition, BIS holds national accreditation from the Kyrgyz Ministry of Education and Science.

BIS prides itself on delivering inclusive, internationally accredited education within a family-friendly and welcoming environment.

Ethos: Bishkek International School

Founded by local parents seeking a better model for international education in Bishkek, BIS was built on principles of accessibility, community involvement, and progressive education. The school’s mission is to enable students to:

  • Develop curiosity and achieve their academic, sporting, and creative potential
  • Grow in confidence while respecting others
  • Engage with local and global issues and contribute meaningfully to the world

A commitment to diversity and inclusivity is at the core of the BIS ethos. As a secular, liberal institution, BIS welcomes students of all backgrounds, regardless of gender, ethnicity, language, or belief. Beyond academics, the school fosters social responsibility, democratic values, environmental stewardship, and creativity – empowering students to become change-makers in their communities and beyond.

Facilities: Bishkek International School

Although centrally located, BIS is tucked away in a quiet residential neighbourhood—offering students a safe, calm, and pollution-protected environment for learning and play.

The school features a thoughtfully designed campus that prioritises space, safety, and sustainability. Outdoor spaces include a full-size basketball court, a natural grass playing field, a preschool garden with natural materials, and one of the most creative adventure play areas in Bishkek, featuring treehouses, a zipline, and climbing walls.

Indoor facilities include:

  • Three science labs
  • Dedicated classrooms for music, art, dance, and drama
  • Makerspace and library rooms for both primary and secondary students
  • Multipurpose indoor hall for sports and performances
  • Fully equipped kitchen and café spaces
  • Air purifiers throughout the school and monitored outdoor air quality to protect student health year-round

The school continues to invest in development each year, with plans for a new campus to support long-term growth.

BIS is located in a peaceful area of central Bishkek, just a short distance from Chyngyz Aitmatov Avenue and Gagarin Street. The quiet, residential setting offers a secure and pleasant environment – an ideal atmosphere for focused learning and outdoor play.

I have been a school-level user of Schrole for recruiting for the last three hiring cycles and have found the platform they provide to be intuitive and comprehensive. The user interface stands out from others in the market as a crisp interface with the right level of features included at the right places. For me, the top two features are the ability to create school-specific application questions for applicants, and the availability of a short and long form applicant documentation PDF. If you’re looking for a recruiting platform, I highly recommend considering Schrole.
